Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri Maaf Zahir & Batin to my dearest family, friends and readers.

I listen to ‘pengumuman raya’ just now. The first in 5 yrs :D To my surprise, they are still using the same dude. Kesian pakcik announcer tu, dah tua dah… anyway, listening to his voice reminds me of my childhood days.. tertunggu2 and siap duduk depan tv nak dgr die kate raya bile heheehe….

Again, a warm selamat hari raya wish to all. Berhati-hati di jalan raya, makan pun berpada2 la yer n jgn main mercun ok!

With lots of luvvvvv,

Lee Dee Yaa Kay

Popia kecik

26 September, 2008 mangoandjojoba 3 comments

My mom bought lots of serunding during our trip to the east coast a few weeks ago. As raya is coming, she thought it would be great if we, ops not we but “ME” could make the popia kecik. I never knew the actual name, and as far as I remember, I always call it popia kecik.. hehehehe…

By the way, this is my first time doing it. I started my popia kecik project at 3.30pm. First I had the popia sheets out of the freezer, thawed and cut it into small squares. Then I rolled n rolled n rolled n rolled until many many popia keciks mounted up on a plate. In the first few tries hmmm uneven, ugly and comot. Not presentable  at all!! I knew exactly these are going straight into my tummy after berbuka. Then in the next try, the outcomes were slightly better but not perfect. The dried popia sheet make it impossible to roll.  Frustrated, I threw the sheets into a bowl full of water huhuhu (there goes my patience!)… then the popia making became a lot easier miahahahaha.. At 6.30pm I decided to stop. Playing with my finger I started counting my achievement. 1,2,3,4,5,6…… 57 wat?? 57 only in 3 hours?? aigoo…. 57 down, 1943 popia to go?? mommy can we just buy popia kecik for raya?? uwaaaaa……

The first few popia hehee… btw, I was watching jdrama CODE BLUE while making the popia. I think that might explain why 57!

Oh noooooooo!!!

Oh my White Rabbit Creamy Candy!! It was banned by the Singapore authority for containing melamine. Dem, I had such a wonderful childhood memories with the candy. It’s sweet and creamy and the part that I love the most is its thin edible paper-like wrapping made from sticky rice. It melts  on my tongue :) Couldnt remember the last time I eat that candy though.. maybe some 18 odd years ago hehehe..

Hmm what is the problem with melamine contamination in the milk? 4 babies died, and thousands more are sick so far, so yup it deserves the fuss and worldwide attention! Who is that genius that suggests to add melamine (contains high nitrogen, used widely in fertilizer and plastic industries) in the milk at the first place? should you try it first on animals (sorry monkeys) or do some research first before using it for human consumption? cute adorable babies are dying … pity them :(

I wonder whether the Chinese Government takes this matter seriously. With more than a billion population, a few thousand deaths would not cause any harm to them. Currently, everyone keeps pointing finger and blaming each other. Farmers add water to the fresh milk so they can sell ‘more’  litres of milk i.e to  increase profits. Manufacturer receiving a low quality milk, plans to cut cost (it’s expensive if they add other source of protein to the milk) by adding melamine to increase the protein content in the milk because high protein content attracts customers to buy them.  The authority in the meantime, fails to detect the presence of dangerous substances in the food all these while. So who is to blame? I know, blame the mothers hahahaha they should breast feed their babies!!

Just as a precaution, stop buying or eating anything that contains milk or milk products (milk, yoghurt, ice-cream, chocolates, biscuits, sweets bla2…..) from China okies!

Hmm.. suddenly I’m glad and proud to be Malaysian!
